❓ The Problem
How to make flight CO2 offsetting friendlier for Lufthansa users?
👤 My Role
Lead UX/UI (Collaboration with Research & UX Writing)
📱 Devices
1. Research
Fieldwork: “Guerrilla” interviews at European airports to understand real perceptions regarding sustainability, CO2, and SAF (Sustainable Aviation Fuel).
Benchmarking: Competitor analysis to identify standards and opportunities for improvement.
Strategy: The project was divided into several Value Streams to cover the entire user journey (pre, during, and post-flight).

2. The Challenge: Offsetting Past Flights
My focus was designing the experience for users who had already flown (“The After”). The goal: to facilitate retroactive offsetting.

The Solution
A 3-Step Flow

I designed a linear and transparent process to reduce cognitive friction:
-
Selection: The user chooses which past flights to offset.
-
Configuration: Decides how much of the carbon footprint to neutralize.
-
Method: Chooses where their contribution goes:
-
-
Ecological Projects (Reforestation).
-
SAF (Sustainable Aviation Fuel).
-
Mix (A combination of both).
-
3. Validation & Launch
-
User Testing: We validated the prototype with real users.

-
Iteration: We adjusted the interface based on test results to improve the clarity of complex scientific data.

-
Result: Successful launch and integration into the Lufthansa digital ecosystem.
